We are excited to kick off the new year again with a week of focussed prayer. We want to commit everything we do in 2018 to God and hope you can join us to pray. Here are the times for this years week of prayer
As we look through the gospel of Luke together, we are confronted with the same question that many people who met Jesus were confronted with, Who is this man? It’s a question that has been asked by many different people throughout the years. Many people have come up with different answers too. Some merely say that he was a good man, some say he was a good moral teacher, and others say that he was God. In reality however there are only three possible outcomes to the question. The only realistic conclusions that you can come to are that he was either, mad, bad or God. The things that Jesus said and did, if they weren’t true, were the works of a lunatic, or a deceiver who tricked people. There is no way that Jesus could merely have been a good person, because he claimed to be God! If his claims are not true then he has deceived millions! That’s certainly not the work of a good person! That just leaves us with the possibility that Jesus is God, and the things he said and did were true. If this is the case, which I wholeheartedly believe it is, it means we have to take the things that Jesus said and did seriously! That is by no means an easy task. But through the work of the Holy Spirit, God gives us the grace to live lives honouring to him, and even when we mess up, he always calls us back and restores us.
Maybe you have never really given this question a thought. Maybe you have come to church year after year and never really asked who Jesus is. If that is the case I want to challenge you, don’t let the ritual of coming to a church building week in week out be your only experience of Christianity, because if it is you miss out on the abundant life that Jesus offers!
God has a plan for your life and a part for you in his story. As we continue to look at the life of Jesus together over the coming months, draw close to him, learn from him and let yourself fall more deeply in love with him.
